When you hear the phrase “Moonwalk,” the first person that comes to mind is Michael Jackson right? Did you know that the moonwalk’s original name was actually the “backslide.” I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble but I do want to let you know that a lof of MJ’s dance moves were not his own. Many of his “signature” moves were taught to him by Jeffrey Daniel, one of the members from the group Shalamar.
Shalamar is well known for their songs A Night to Remember, Second time Around, Make that Move and This is for the Lover in you.
I always thought that MJ originally created his own dance moves; the moonwalk, the 45 degree lean, the pop and locking routines on stage, but believe me, even after finding out about Jeffrey Daniel, nothing has changed how I feel about the King of Pop, he is the greatest and will always be! He may not have invented the moonwalk, but he sure made it famous!
The video below shows it all.
